A Message from the Principal

I am pleased to welcome you to Guthlaxton College, a thriving Specialist College at the heart of a family of schools in Wigston. We are a large school of over 1300 students aged between 14 and 19 years. All our students are studying for a qualification of some sort and our motto is “Learning to Succeed”. We pride ourselves in being genuinely comprehensive and working together to ensure that all our students achieve success.

Good teaching and individual guidance does ensure that students of all abilities make good progress. We are the most improved Upper school in Leicestershire, increasing our GCSE performance by 23% over the past three years and our A-level results are in the top 4 in the County. Our values give a clear idea of what is important at Guthlaxton: We are proud to be BRAVE – where everyone Belongs, everyone shows Respect, everyone Achieves, everyone is Valued and Everyone learns.

We are committed to providing high quality teaching, attentive pastoral care, vigorous and enriching extra-curricular activities. We work in partnership with parents, our feeder High Schools, Primary schools, local business, Colleges and Universities and our community. We support successful and enjoyable learning within a safe, orderly and purposeful environment.

The students attending Guthlaxton College today are the leaders of tomorrow. Our aim is to ensure that all students reach the highest level of achievement, that all students reach their full potential and succeed. In addition to the many academic qualifications we have to offer, we strive to equip our students with the life-skills and understanding to enable them to meet the demands of our rapidly changing world and help them succeed at school and in life. We recognise and encourage the unique and diverse contribution made by each member of the College community and we share in the celebration of our many successes.

We are a successful Specialist Performing Arts College with our best ever results in 2012 with many students reaching or even surpassing their aspirational targets. We are fortunate that our curriculum and resources have been enriched through our Performing Arts Specialist Status being a centre for excellence for creativity and the Arts in Wigston. Well-qualified, excellent and professional teaching and associate staff ensure that all our students have the support and opportunities to achieve their best at whatever they choose to do.
