Able and More Able
2006/7 academic year was an enjoyable and successful year for the Able and More Able students.
After an interesting and informative series of twilight sessions, the Year 9 Able and More Able year 9 Enrichment Group culminated their activities with a trip to Pembroke College Cambridge, our link college.
The students, Miss Cox, Mr Wilce and myself had an enjoyable day that started with a talk and tour of Pembroke College from the Access Tutor. We met students, toured the college facilities and were provided with refreshments in a very distinguished room. Later we punted on the river Cam. The highlight was, watching an advert being filmed for National Westminster bank. The next day follow up back at Guthlaxton produced some excellent and skilful presentations about the day.
Several of our students have enjoyed taking part in summer schools organised by various universities. Andrew Redfern attended Demontfort University’s Art and Design course. Thomas Dowsing, Rachel Freer, Laura Jarram, Daniel McArdle, Abigail Pick, Jade Rodwell and Holly Arnold all attended Bishop Grosseteste College UCL, on a course designed for those thinking about a teaching career. Jessica Middleton Pugh attended a summer school at Pembroke College Cambridge.
Feedback from the Colleges and the students was very positive and everyone certainly enjoyed themselves. There will be similar opportunities this year and students will be informed as and when they arise.
Last academic year some year 11 students attended educational coaching tutorials, it was very pleasing to see that in August those students had benefited and achieved the grades that they had been aiming for. We wish all the students who have left continued success in their chosen careers. Our Feeder High schools have submitted the names of the students who will be taking part in the 2007/08 enrichment sessions and we all look forward to meeting them.
