Head of department
Mrs Thompson
Occasionally students find college work difficult. You may find that something is difficult for only a short time and, after some additional help you can continue your progress as usual. You may require more help than others and are encouraged to use the Learning Support Department throughout your college life. This may be from Year 10 until you leave at the end of Year 11 or during your post-16 education in the Sixth Form.
Whether you have difficulties with spelling, reading, grammar or handwriting, or with the basic use of number, help from the Learning Support teachers can be sought.
All students are encouraged to use the variety of resources to help them overcome their difficulties, especially with regard to assessment or when completing coursework. It is possible to use computers, video cameras and cassette recorders to record work for assessment. We aim to assist the student to achieve the best possible results.
Students who may never need to take advantage of the department’s resources may still encounter support teachers in lessons across the curriculum. The support teacher may be on hand just at the time when help is required.
