Course details

BTEC Level 2 Certificates in Performing Acts. You would choose to specialise in either Music, Drama or Dance

Students will be required to investigate and understand the social and historical context of different dance styles. They will participate in contemporary dance classes, develop their movement vocabulary in a range of styles and understand the basic physical and interpretive skills required in performance.

Note: You are not allowed to choose GCSE Dance and BTEC Dance.

The BTEC Level 2 Certificate offers an opportunity for students to experience a vocational course as an alternative to GCSE. It provides a more practical based route into each of our three main Performing Arts subjects – Drama, Dance and Music. This will suit students who want a hands on approach. It will also enable you to progress to a higher level qualification such as the BTEC National which has been successfully run at Guthlaxton for a number of years.

The course provides opportunities for students to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for a successful performance in working life. The course is equivalent to two GCSEs and is recognised by employers and educational institutions. This course is made up of four practical and written coursework units with no written exam.

If you were to take a BTEC Performing Arts qualification you would specialise in one of the Performing Arts subjects.

How you will be assessed

All BTEC courses are internally assessed from the work completed on the course. There are no externally set examinations.

How will it help me at Post 16?

Students who opt for this course will have learnt many skills that they can either employ directly if they pursue this course/career path at a higher level. Alternatively, they may take away from the course the transferable skills of problem solving, time management, communication and presentation skills as well as organisational and practical knowledge and skills learnt. This qualification will lead on well to BTEC National 3 (currently running at Guthlaxton), or other professional qualifications taken as part of training in employment.
