HomeI have recently been appointed as the Extended Schools Development Co-ordinator for the Wigston Family of Schools. There are 16 schools in the family and I am based at Guthlaxton College.
By 2010 every school in England will need to provide (or signpost to) a range of extended services (known as the ‘core offer’), either on its own site or in partnership with other schools or community organisations. These services include: out of school hours activities and childcare, parenting support and family learning, easy access to specialist support services and opportunities for the community to use local school facilities for adult learning activities.
Over the coming months I will liaise with schools and local partners to gain an understanding of the current provision in the area related to the ‘core offer’. I will also be carrying out some consultation with parents, young people and school staff to gain their views and ideas about activities and services it is felt there is a need for. This will enable us to provide or signpost services to help meet the needs of pupils, families and the wider community within Wigston.
