Diplomas: New for 2009

Information about the new Diploma qualification

Dear Parent / Guardian

We are contacting as many parents as possible to ask for assistance in building up a database of possible contacts to help with the new Diploma qualification. There is a survey here.

We hope you would be willing to help us by completing this survey. You can access this link directly from our website under the section for Parents, following the link on the left hand side entitled ‘Learning South Leicestershire’.

The Diploma is a new qualification which lies at the heart of the Government’s new strategy for 14-19 learners. Diplomas will be an important part of the qualification system designed to help many of our young people achieve their ambitions and to provide high quality learning routes.

We need support from parents / guardians to ensure we give our young people real business examples and experience to make their Diploma courses relevant and up to date. We would like to build up a database of potential support across South Leicestershire which is why we are asking if you would complete the survey on the link above. We would be grateful for any support which you may be able to offer e.g. to be able to talk to some young people about your job and what it involves, provide a visit or a talk for students, provide case study information.

From September 2009 students in South Leicestershire will be able to study in one of the following diploma areas:

This will be at either Foundation (equivalent to GCSEs D to G), Higher (equivalent to GCSEs A*-C) or Advanced (equivalent to A levels).

Over the next five years more Diplomas will become available so that by 2013 students in South Leicestershire will be able to choose between Diplomas in the following areas:

Thank you in advance for your assistance
