Tracy Dickens School Nurse, tel: 2883707
The school nurse plans to hold a health promotion stand at Guthlaxton, students can come and have their BMI checked and be given information about the following events that the school nurse team will be offering:
Weight combat club
Any student who wishes to learn more about healthy eating or has concerns about their weight can come and speak to the school nurse.
We hope to start a group following half term, students can come and be weighed privately and be given a short talk on topics such as, emotional relationship with food, food groups, portion sizes, calories, healthy weight ranges, exercise, drinks. I have some names of interested people but if anyone else is interested in joining please come and speak to the school nurse.
Quit smoking
We will be starting a quit smoking session for any student who wants to give up smoking or learn about how to cut down. Laura and Sue who are part of the school nurse team have recently been trained to run a quit smoking session, they will be advertising this later but if anyone is interested please come and let us know.
Chlamydia testing
The Chlamydia testing team will be in Guthlaxton on 10th February at lunchtime. Chlamydia is a bacterial sexually transmitted infection and is most common in the 15 – 24 year olds, nationally one in every 10 people who are sexually active test positive to Chlamydia. The test involves a urine sample which is sent to the hospital, the team then text you a message which either says C/S ok, or if anyone tests positive to Chlamydia they will be asked to contact a number and be advised of what to do next. The treatment of Chlamydia is 4 antibiotic tablets. It is easy to test for Chlamydia and easy to treat, but 70% of girls and 50% of boys do not know they have got it, girls that do not get treated for Chlamydia could have fertility problems later in life, so if you think you might please come along and have a test.
