A2-Level Theatre Studies

It’s a busy time for our A2 students as they begin the hard work leading to their exam. In the first week of February they will be working with David Stuttard and Company Dionysus on their exam text Lysistrata. David is a published author and his latest adaptation – Looking at Lysistrata will be released this year (see picture). Hopefully we can have pictures for you next Newsletter.

The group then follow this workshop with a trip to the Barbican in London to see the internationally acclaimed Cheek by Jowl’s highly praised new version of Macbeth (see picture). The students will then begin work on their adaptations of both of these plays before a further trip to London in April to see Macbeth at the Globe theatre to experience a more Elizabethan Theatre style. Again, more pictures to come!

"The Empty Room"

After a winter hiatus this project will be getting geared up for action over the next few weeks. Drawing together students from Media, Drama, Music and Dance, the project will provide workshops in each area and then present the challenge of combining their skills to create a new piece of work. The first workshops confirmed are as follows:

  • Music: Wednesdays 3rd, 10th and 24th Feb from 3.30pm to 4.30pm in A0.13.
  • Drama: Mondays 1st, 8th, 22nd Feb from 3.30pm to 4.30pm in A0.15.

More details about workshops for Media and Dance to be announced soon. All the students involved will get a message via their tutor. If any students are unsure see Mr Human or Mr Smith.

Arts Award

The Arts Award is a well recognised scheme run by the Arts Council to acknowledge the students’ work in the Arts. Their involvement can take a variety of paths and include photography, film, dance, pottery, music, dance, painting, fashion…anything artistic! Some students may have already completed their first level Bronze Award at High School and are now looking to step up to take their Silver Award. Other students may be looking to get involved for the first time. Students should have received information about this through their tutors but if they haven’t – don’t panic – they should go and see Mr Human in the Performing Arts department on Monday lunchtimes to get involved or find out more information. You can also peruse the Arts Award website for further details: www.artsaward.org.uk.
