16th November 2007
At the end of October, we started using Truancy Call here at Guthlaxton College. This is an automated messaging service which will telephone parents and carers if their son/daughter (in year 10 or year 11) is absent from College.
The automated message will continue to call (until 8:00 pm) and will stop once the message has been answered and we have a reason for the students absence. Parents and carers will be able to respond to the message, free of charge, by following the instructions given. To listen to an example of the message that is sent, please call Parent Line on 0845 225 0201.
Parents/Carers are reminded to telephone the College on 0116 2881611 at the earliest oportunity (preferably before 9:00am) to inform us if their child is going to be absent from College. This will prevent an unnecessary call being made.
All Parents/Carers should have received a letter outlining the details of this new initiative. Although it will be primarily used to inform Parents/Carers when their child is absent, it will also improve the communication between Guthlaxton College and Parents/Carers. There may be occasions when the automated system will be used to supply details of events happening at the College and even issue an alert in the unlikely event of an emergency closure.
