I am very proud to be the Principal of Guthlaxton College. The professionalism and loyalty displayed by everyone during the inspection were a credit to the whole College community.
The inspectors visited 40 lessons, and held meetings with governors, staff, students and parents. The observed the College’s work, and looked at: the data on students’ performance, including their current progress, safeguarding records, plans for the future, and records of the College’s own monitoring of its performance. The responses to parents, students and staff questionnaires were also considered.
Of all the things that were ‘weighed and measured’ during the two days, I am most proud of the findings that the inspectors have made in the following areas:
- The extent to which students feel safe;
- Students’ behaviour; (We currently have a 75% reduction in exclusion this term compared to last year and a fabulous improvement in the attitudes to learning throughout the College)
- The extent to which students adopt healthy lifestyles;
- The extent to which students contribute to the College and the wider community;
- The effectiveness of our care, guidance and support;
- The effectiveness of our engagement with parents and carers; and,
- The effectiveness of safeguarding procedures
All these elements require a genuine philosophy of caring; believing in the value that everyone can and does make. The inspection validated how well we do in all these areas. It was also clear that what we showed over two days is evident every day at Guthlaxton. On behalf of everyone I say congratulations and a heart felt thank you for your continued efforts to help every student make the most of their potential.
