Guthlaxton students perform.
The dance showcase was shown to audiences on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd December 2011. The performance was a huge success for the 120 students who took part and feedback from audience members has been over whelming.
Sweetieland from Mathew Bournes Nutcracker! was recreated by year 10 GCSE and year 13 BTEC students with Josh Chalk and Eve Kingsley-Elton starring as the Humbug bouncer and Clara, this piece is studied as part of the dance curriculum and dance students are looking forward to watching Mathew Bournes version in January. Guthlaxton Dance Company premiered their piece “Am I a Contemporary Dancer?” which will be performed again in January as part of Mass Movement – this piece raised questions about the students individual interpretations of this dance style. Anybody who would like to come along and support the Dance Company in Mass Movement can buy tickets from The Peepul Centre. Year 10 BTEC dance classes both performed class dances, Dance Academy performed two pieces which were technically challenging but both performed wonderfully and all sixth form classes performed inspiring pieces. There was also excellent performances from our girls street dance club, boys street dance club, tap club, modern dance club and many smaller student lead groups. Solos were performed beautifully by Ben Edwards, Josh Herbert, Tayla Poole, Sam Robinson and Rebecca Rosen.
Staff who attended the performance have given endless encouraging feedback, here are just a few of the positive comments given: Great to see such talent from across the whole school. A top quality performance. – Mr Baldwin; It is amazing to see just how much talent our students have, and how hard they had all worked. My children loved it and didn't want it to end! - Mrs Pollon; I loved the variety and imaginative range of choreography -both teacher and student inspired. I was impressed by the large number of students involved and the commitment and professionalism they brought to their performances – Mr Dacey.
Thank you to everybody who took part and to those of you who gave up time to come along and support our dance students.
