Day of workshops at Guthlaxton run by Author Alex Wheatle.
There was a real coup for Guthlaxton when acclaimed author Alex Wheatle MBE dropped into the college for the day to give interested students an inspirational creative writing experience. Alex spent the day with students across all years working in the college Learning Resource Centre in a series of engaging creative writing workshops.
Alex first treated the students to his inspiring life story from his early life growing up in a children’s home, through his experiences of living in Brixton during the 80s riot. Alex also spoke of his journey into writing poetry and novels, performing his famous lyrics as the “Brixton Bard” to the group.
The workshops, delivered over the course of the day, encouraged the students to explore their creativity with writing and drama activities and resulted in the students producing outstanding pieces of work. The students gained a valuable insight into the creative techniques used to develop characters and explore their writing and storytelling ideas.
Alex’s uplifting and positive message of everyone finding their talent in life left the students and staff with an inspiring experience and a thought-provoking day.
