National Concert Band Festival, Northampton, Sunday 20 November 2011

The college Big Band returned to the NCBF regional rounds on Sunday to participate in the school Big Band class held at Northampton School for Boys.

The band opened their class with Manteca, Lullaby of Birdland, Blue Bossa and Straight No Chaser. The adjudicators praised the students’ tone quality and phrasing and made special mention of the excellent improvisation skills shown by soloists James Sarson, Adam Langeveld, Alex Bentley, Michael Parker, Jack Kenney and Alex Fergusson. It was very much a team effort so congratulations are due to all of the band who contributed to such a successful outcome: Joel Fergusson (drums) Freya White (baritone), Rebecca Oughton and Jamie Adams (tenor sax), Stephanie Dobrijevic, Lewis Marriott and Ella Lee (alto sax), Peter De Carle (trombone), Chris Thornhill, Tom Phillips and Emily Barnes (trumpets).

The band hope to return to the Festival next year; meanwhile preparations for the Christmas Concerts on 20 & 21 December continue. Tickets are available now from college reception.
