U16 Girls Football

The girls made it to the top of the regional league where they won on points. They had to play Countesthorpe in the League Cup Final. This was played at Leicester University, Manor Road sports ground.

The game was going to be a close match as we had played them twice this year with one close draw and a win.

The girls played really well with a very strong defence. With both teams scoreless at half time the game was anyone’s. Countesthorpe then scored in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Our girls then started to pick up the pace. They had a few near chances at the goal but the goal keeper made some great saves.

With 5 minutes until the final whistle the girls started to lose hope. Then Codie and Coral started to produce their magic, with plenty of shots from outside the box. Finally, 2 minutes from the end of the game, Codie crossed a ball in from outside the box and the ball at last beat the goal keeper, as she aimed for the top right hand corner of the goal. After the final whistle we had 10 minutes each way of extra time, there were no more goals scored which left us in a nail biting penalty shoot out.

Some of our girls lost their nerve during the start of the shoot out, which meant that we were slightly unfocused during this time.  Both teams managed to get the first one in. Then our girls hit a couple over the bar so we were out by two. The girls’ heads went down and they lost the final on penalties 5-2.

Unlucky girls, but they did very well to get to the final.

Well done in the League, Second Place Winners in Leicestershire.

U16’s Girls Badminton

The girls finished second in Leicestershire Schools Badminton Tournament, after winning all their games in their region, which put them into County Final.

In the final the girls were completing against King Edward Coalville, where we won 5-3. They then played De Lisle for 1st and 2nd place. With De Lisle having three County players we met our match but the girls worked very hard.

We lost by 2 games, which put us into second place.
