Spring term round up and forthcoming events

Our final week of the Spring term as a Sixth Form was one of prosperity and collective reward. On the night of Tuesday, April 12th, we held the annual ‘Gutho’s Got Talent’ event in the college hall. A crowd of over 270 witnessed a jaw-dropping evening which starred the cream of the crop of Guthlaxton students performing their individual talents for the pleasure of on-looking parents, teachers, and fellow students. The top 3 in reverse order; Codie Smith, James Condon, and our winner Randeletta Howson, who were all particularly inspiring. A strong collection of Sixth Form management leaders and representatives were present in the build up and on the evening itself to guarantee a smooth running show enjoyed by all viewers. All money raised went to the ‘Heartlink’ charity, a unit of Glenfield hospital which dearly appreciated our support, and £650 was collected to help them on their way.

On the Friday of that same week, the Sixth Form held their final scheduled charity event themselves, in which they raised money for ‘The Laura Centre’, a charity which focuses on counselling and support after the bereavement of a child. The general consensus and feedback from the students in the Sixth Form announced that they felt the charity events this year had ‘gone out with a bang’, and ‘we’d never seen as many smiling faces in the common room at lunchtime’. The day was enjoyed by all and was for a fantastic cause, raising £675 for the designated charity. Well done Sixth Form.

Students in Year 11 will shortly receive a letter to inform them about the Sixth Form Induction at Guthlaxton on Monday 4th- Wednesday 6th July. Each year, we take the new Year 12 bowling; students need to return the reply slip and money to the college cashier by Friday 20th May. For the Induction, all students will be expected to wear the sixth form dress code which is smart dress; trousers, shirts and ties, skirts or dresses. No trainers, lumberjack shirts or hoodies.

Students in Year 12 and 13 will receive information about their remaining weeks before the formal exam period. Year 12 will be on study release from Monday 16th May until Friday 10th June inclusive, however there may be revision sessions which they are strongly recommended to attend. They have been advised that in order to continue into Year 13 onto A2 level courses, they must secure a minimum of 3 AS levels at grade E, with higher grades preferable in their chosen A2 subjects to ensure success.
For Year 13, they leave on Friday 27th May after the Last Fling at the Grand Hotel on Thursday 26th and their leavers assembly on Friday 27th. They must order and pay for their photographs and yearbooks by the middle of June.
