Sixth Form students will be invited to attend this year’s Life Conference which will be held on Wednesday 30th March at Guthlaxton. It involves workshops on finance, drugs, food and health and supports students in developing their interview skills ready for employment. It is particularly beneficial for students who have chosen to leave the college to move into employment rather than to go on to university.

The Sixth Form Management Team are currently hard at work finalising the arrangements for the end of year students opportunities; namely the purchase of hoodies and/or t-shirts, the sixth form yearbook and photograph, plus the Last Fling. They are also keen to invite more Year 12 students to join their sub committees so that they can ‘learn the ropes’ to sustain the legacy of the developments achieved this academic year.

Year 12 and Year 13 will have received module results from their January exams. For the most part, the results are generally pleasing, but for where there has been an unfortunate blip in a student’s performance, they have been advised the following:

  • Students who have failed a module at AS and A2 level/or achieved worse than anticipated, are able to take an exam re-sit in June subject to completing the appropriate form available from David Charlish Exams Officer, and paying the necessary fee.
  • Students who are considering continuing with a subject at A2 level in Year 13, but have failed a module must complete a re-sit in June or withdraw from the subject at the end of this academic year.
  • Students who gain a grade E should consider retaking the module to increase their chances of securing a place on the course at A2 level in Year 13.
  • Where students have failed MPC1 (Mathematics), they are best advised to drop the subject as evidence suggests that students who have not passed this module are unlikely to secure an overall pass at AS level.

Students heading off to university in September will be keen to start their applications through Student Finance. It has now been confirmed that the site opens on 16th March. As a college we have ordered some materials to support students and Kirsty Wilkinson from DMU will be available on Monday 21st March in the Diploma Suite in B-Block from 6.15pm to offer support.
