REALISING OPPORTUNITIES (ROPS)

Through our strong partnership with the University of Leicester we have joined the ROPS scheme for the first full programme, having taken part in the pilot scheme last year.

The scheme aims to engage students with a high academic achievement at GCSE level from backgrounds where no one in the family has gone on to University.  The students must meet a strict criterion, set by the scheme and then follow the programme throughout years 12 and 13. Eight students from year 12 have signed up for the programme which will finish in July 2012.

During the programme students will experience:
•    Skills4uni online study skills module
•    Be matched with a personal undergraduate e-mentor
•    Attend a range of events including residential visits; subject tasters and skills sessions
•    Attend a National Student Conference
•    Complete either an Extended Project Qualification or Academic Assignment

ROPS allows students who fully complete the programme to gain increased access to all partner universities by receiving an offer worth up to 40 UCAS tariff points or two A Level Grades (ie Bs rather than As) from a selected group of 12 Universities including Leicester; Bristol; Manchester and York.

The programme encourages independence and allows students to have a taster of what University life is like.
