As always Christmas is a very busy time of the year for the Food Technology department. At the beginning of December some of our budding young chefs took part in ‘The Young Chef of the Year’ competition which is sponsored by the Wigston Rotary Club. This year we were very fortunate to have the Oadby Launde Club on board which has enabled two of our winners to go forward to the next stage and we would like to thank both Roy (Wigston Club) and John (Oadby Club) for their part in the organisation in this. We would also like to thank the head chef from Shearsby Bath and a chef from the Food department at Leicester College for doing such a sterling job in the winners selection process. As they said it was no easy task because the standard was so high.
The competitors were:
| Year 10 | Year 11 |
Nicola Kell | Imogen Blackshaw Jenna Finch Matthew Bacon Rachael Holt Hannah Gillett |
| Year 12 | Year 13 |
| Katie Beattie | Charlotte Stokes |
Well done to all the competitors but there could only be three winners:
1st place Charlotte Stokes
2nd place Lara Stomenov
3rd place Dane Pemberton
Charlotte and Lara will now represent the College in the next stage of the competition held at Samworth Academy on Saturday 5th February 2011. We would like to wish them every success.
Festive Fayre Competition
All our Year 10 students have been busy producing a festive fayre product. There design brief was:
Design, develop and make a high quality product to be packaged and sold in a leading supermarket.
As always a range of ideas led to it being a huge success. Mr Keller and Miss Davies commented on the superb effort by all the students and once again had a very difficult job in judging the winners. There was one winner from each class and three overall winners as well as a prize for the best packaging as follows:
10A Ellie Dickson
10B Gage Robinson
10E Demi Benford
10F Amie Rimmington
10H1 Chelsea Houghman
10H2 Shannon Blackshaw
10K Beth Parker-Hayes
1st prize Ellie Dickson
2nd prize Chelsea Houghman
3rd prize Amie Rimmington
Packaging prize Kaysi Maloney
Well done to all those who took part.
