On Saturday 27th November seven of our student volunteers collected for Herrick House’s chosen charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care, at ASDA in Oadby. They manned three shifts between 10am and 4pm, and little did they know when they volunteered that they would be enduring arctic conditions and snow! Despite the extreme cold they persevered all day and shoppers were very generous. Clearly the charity is well thought of and some took the time to stop and chat to our students about their experiences with Marie Curie Cancer Care. Money raised will be used to provide nursing care for terminally ill patients. Staff at ASDA commented on how pleasant and responsible our students had been – so once again, Guthlaxton students proved to be fantastic ambassadors for the College, and did us proud!
The collective total was a fantastic £318.84 which equates to almost 2 whole nursing shifts, making a huge difference to the person being nursed. Well done and thank you!
Mr Tidmarsh will also be biking around Rutland Water soon, to raise more money for the charity. He will be covering the 17 mile route as fast as he can – hopefully students will sponsor him by paying to guess exactly how long it takes. There will be a cash prize for the closest time!
