Local author Bali Rai opens new £120,000 Learning Resource Centre

On Thursday 18th November we had the great pleasure of welcoming back local author Bali Rai into college. Not only did Bali work with our students for the morning, he also performed the official opening of our refurbished Learning Resource Centre.

The Learning Resource Centre has undergone a major £120,000 refurbishment during July and August of this year in order to enhance the quality of the study facilities for our students. Since the major facelift and installation of 60 computers, plasma screen televisions and wireless audio facilities, we have seen the usage of the centre increase dramatically.

The purpose of the refurbishment was to not only provide better facilities for our post 16 students but also to encourage a more diverse age range into centre. As a result of these changes more Key Stage Four students than ever are using the centre.

Bali was astounded by the difference in the quality of the learning environment that we have provided for the students as he last saw the facilities earlier in this year. Our students were proud to show him around and as always were true ambassadors for Guthlaxton College. During the morning Bali worked with over 30 budding writers, developing their skills and showing them some of his successful creative writing techniques.

Our thanks go out to all of the staff and students who have made this dramatic and popular change to the college possible.
