As you are aware we have recently refurbished our Library in which we transformed the facilities into a modern study centre. In order to support this development we have also improved our search systems based in the resource centre.

We have updated our old system, which simply logged the books that we had in the Library, with a new online search facility. The new system called ‘Oliver’ now enables students to not only search for the books that we have in the main Learning Resource Centre (LRC) but also search all of the resources linked to a particular topic in the different faculties across the college. The new system will also display the main websites linked to area being researched which have been vetted for their educational value. This development narrows down time spent searching through Google for a reputable source.

In line with the upgrade to ‘Oliver’ we are also moving in line with our cashless catering system. Students will be asked to give a unique code based on three points of their finger print. This is the same system that we use in our dining areas.

As you are aware from the correspondence that we sent to you at the start of your child’s time at Guthlaxton, this is not a real finger print. The scanned finger merely takes a three point digital code. All students will be asked to register with ‘Oliver’ during an induction session in the new Learning Resource Centre.

If you have any concerns and would like to discuss this with me further then please do not hesitate to contact me at the college.
