Year 11s London Trip
On Thursday 9th September 2 coach loads of excited Year 11s set off for London to see ‘Blood Brothers’ by Willy Russell, the musical they are studying and performing for their assessment. First we had lunch in Covent Garden and students spent some time “Celebrity Spotting” much to their delight – “they’re like a real person Sir! Even though they’re in Eastenders” they said.
The show was performed by an excellent cast, and some of our students were even sat on the front row – close enough to be hit by “Sammy’s spit” which caused huge excitement amongst the students. The trip really illustrated to the students how much energy and focus they need to be successful in their assessment on November 2nd. It also gave them some really good ideas for how they can make their own performances so much more exciting and engaging. All of the students were thoroughly engaged with the performance and when it came to the big emotional ending there were one or two tears and some tougher lads “had something in their eye”! An enjoyable, educational time was had by all and the students were exceptional ambassadors for Guthlaxton College.
