A group of hard working Year 10 students enjoy a break in the sunshine!
A group of hard working Year 10 students enjoyed a break in the sunshine on Friday 9th July as they climbed, abseiled and took on some intrepid feats at Rutland Water. As a reward for all of their achievement grades being on or above target, the college treated the group to a day out at the Rock Blok, an outdoor pursuit centre in Rutland.
Over 80 students by May of Year 10, had all of their current predicted grades in line or above their target grades. All 80 were then invited on the trip to the Rock Blok as a way of saying well done. At the centre, students were able to use the high ropes assault course, as well as use the climbing wall. In the afternoon the students went off cycling around Rutland Water.
It was fantastic to watch these ambassadors for our college, challenging themselves to climb the 30 feet up the high ropes and tackle the wobbly rope bridges to make their way around the assault course. Whilst on the climbing wall, some of the students kept trying to improve their performance by taking on bigger and bigger challenges. The strength of character shown by the students on the climbing wall, reflected the determination demonstrated in their studies. Some of the students challenged Mr Wilce to get as far round Rutland Water as they could in the time that they had. A plucky Mr Wilce managed to keep up, even sorting out a puncture on the way round!!
As a way of saying thank you to some of our committed Year 12 students, a small group accompanied the trip. These Year 12 students have contributed a huge amount to the life of the Sixth Form by working on the Sixth Form Management Team and supporting the college with in many ways.
Rewarding the hard work and commitment of our students to their studies and the college, is a central part of our Assertive Mentoring drive. We hope that throughout Year 11 who form our Young Achievers Club, will be able to enjoy many more exciting days like this one.
