On Tuesday 4th May the Sixth Form were joined by Edward Garnier in the Private Study Area.

Mr Garnier was introduced to the students by Mr Keller and spent time explaining his role as MP and outlining areas of the Conservative Party manifesto.

30 Students, all first time voters, attended and asked Mr Garnier some very relevant and challenging questions covering areas of:

  • Student Finance
  • Tuition Fees
  • Tax
  • Pensions
  • Public Sector Spending Cuts
  • NHS Cuts

The students who attended were a credit to the college, behaving in a respectful, polite and adult way – even when they didn’t agree with his answers!

Mr Garnier then had a tour of B Block meeting students in different areas and discussing with them their aspirations and expectations for their future. He took a keen interest in the plans for development of the Sixth Form.

Mr Garnier then had lunch with various College Leadership Team and Heads of House staff where again he faced challenging questions and in depth discussions on various topics.

His visit ended by being interviewed by Dan Smith for Roar Radio.

Feedback from students has been interesting, they valued the time Mr Garnier gave them and were pleased they had the opportunity to meet a politician face to face. The visit helped them to make up their minds on how they were going to vote – I’ve been sworn to secrecy on what that was though!
