Quick catch up.

In June the Art department held their End of Year Show in Wendy’s. All students who took the GCSE Art course had some work in the show which reflected a wide range of talent from figurative work to Forensic Scene of Crime Installations and Dresses which the Textiles Technology students had designed and created for their GCSE coursework were displayed along with their design folders. Year 12 exhibited paintings, textiles and ceramic pieces. Year 13 enjoyed having their own space to display their A2 coursework and examination pieces. A number of former Guthlaxton students who had just completed their Art foundation Course also contributed to the show, enabling our students to see the development of work from GCSE through to pre Degree level.

News of former Art students

After studying A level Art many of our students do a one year Foundation Course before starting a Degree level course in Art and Design. The following students all successfully completed a Foundation course at Leicester College last year and will begin their three year degree course this September.

  • Rebecca Barker - Distinction - Nottingham Trent, Decorative Arts
  • Gina Mollett - Distinction - Nottingham Trent, Fashion Design
  • Lisa Crispin - Distinction, DeMontfort University, Design Crafts
  • Hannah Britt - Merit - Nottingham Trent, Graphic Design
  • Selina Cheng - Merit - Loughborough University, Multimedia Textiles
  • Hannah Lodge - Pass - Gap Year (Has deferred a place at Lincoln)

Associate staff member Sarah Bosworth achieved a Distinction and will continue with her art studies at De Montfort University, Fine Art as a part time student. We wish them all success.

Zac Simmons, who left Guthlaxton in June and Gina Mollett who left the previous year are both members of the National Portrait Gallery Youth Forum. Each month they have travelled to London to take part in various events and workshops. During the summer both were lucky enough to meet Anthony Gormley at his London Studio and were able to look around the 'One and Other' Sky Arts Studio in Trafalgar Square

Some of our past A Level students are also members of the City Gallery Youth Panel, a group of young people who share an interest in art, encouraging others to get involved. You may have seen them at Leicester’s Summer Sundae this year where they had a Marquee and were making hats and masks with festival goers.
