Chocolate arrived in the classroom at Guthlaxton College when the Mathematics teachers decided to finish their busy academic year on a creative high. A mathematical project for students that involved looking at the dimensions of a Malteser, using many mathematical skills such as, calculating volumes and surface area of 3D shapes, (some as complex as Geodesic domes) constructing and measuring accurate nets. The project is also cross-curricular involving the Enterprise Dept.
Students were asked to design and accurately construct new packaging for a Maltesers box from one piece A4 card.
Prizes awarded for 1) Greatest volume/surface area, 2) Creative design and 3) Most aesthetically pleasing.
Date of project completion by Year 10 students
