Final House Reports for Magna, Parva and Harcourt

Final report for Harcourt House

(Ailie Pollon)

Harcourt has not had the most successful year in terms of House points, however we have a had a great number of tutor groups participating in House competitions and Kelly Burfoot 11HMG spent a number of hours organising and coordinating a sponsored leg wax for a group of Year 10 and 11 boys who were very brave. She also ran a cake stall alongside this event with her friends and raised over £300.

There are a group of 20+ Year 11 Harcourt students who have added a grade B at GCSE for their point score by successfully completing Adult Numeracy and Literacy at level 2 and 8 students who have achieved an extra grade D at GCSE by completing ALAN level 1 in both numeracy and literacy so congratulations to them.

Congratulations has been the theme of our assemblies over the last few weeks and it was great to be able to award so many certificates to all year groups for making progress, positive attitude in subjects and also outstanding achievement. It is the is end of an era as we ready for beginning as 4 houses and I am looking forward to working with an excellent team of tutors and new students as Head of Wistan House. I wish all Harcourt students and staff both past and present the very best wishes in all they do.

Final report for Magna House

(Maggie Hadkiss)

As we come to the end of an era in Magna House, with our new pastoral structure starting in June, it is appropriate that I thank all the staff and students who have contributed so much to its success over the years. In particular I would like to thank two members of staff, who are leaving the college, for their contributions: Anne Coulstock and Jamie Beckwith.

Our Tutors in Year 11 have been busy completing references for their students, while the Year 10 Tutors are working hard to assist their students with their work experience placements. We have continued to work with our Year 11 target group, both with mentoring and ALAN testing, we look forward to their results in August.

It has been very heartening to be part of the ‘achievement assemblies’ and to see so many students, in all years, rewarded by subject staff for their achievements and effort within subjects. We have also presented House awards to students who have contributed to the work of their Tutor Group and the wider life of the College.

Final report for Parva House

(Iain Tidmarsh)

With exams now underway, Parva students are working hard towards their final awards. A good number have already been successful in gaining Literacy and Numeracy qualifications, through the ALAN award, and we have celebrated various individual student successes with certificate assemblies for each of the year groups.

Parva students have participated actively in competitive events this year, and we are in with good chance of gaining the House Championship when the competitions are finally brought to a close.

I have enjoyed my time as Head of such a successful House, and am proud of the staff and students and the achievements we have had over the years. I wish all the very best to the current students and staff who are leaving to join other Houses – I am sure they will be an asset to whichever House they join, and I look forward to working as head of the new Herrick House.

I would also like to thank the following departing staff for their contributions to Parva, and wish the very best to Evette Walker and Nicola Moore in their new jobs, to Sue Haines in retirement, and to Vipasha Hazarika on maternity leave.
