After initially having to be postponed due to snow, the U15 girls county Netball Tournament was rearranged for Wednesday 4th March at Leicester Grammar School.
The group stage saw Guthlaxton winning all their games and so finishing top of the group; the scores were 5-2 against Sir Jonathan North, 12 – 2 against Lutterworth, 8-5 against Ratcliffe and 12-0 against Beauchamp.
In the quarter finals, Guthlaxton were drawn against Leicester High. The girls played excellently as a team and secured a safe passage through to the semi finals with a 9-2 victory. In the semi finals, the girls raised their game and their strong defence resulted in an 8-1 victory and a final against Loughborough High.
Loughborough would always provide a tough opposition and both teams played well. Jade and Nadia were on top form in the attacking circle, achieving an excellent success rate, with excellent support from Kathryn who worked well to feed the ball. In defence, Amy and Tammy were strong in limiting the oppositions shooting opportunities, making some excellent interceptions. Guthlaxton lead throughout the game and went into the second half in the lead. In the second half, although Loughborough High maintained their standard and often matched our goals, Guthlaxton maintained their discipline and played a possession game, which resulted in a 9-5 victory.
Squad: Amy Brown, Nadia Kostrewski, Naomi Surrell, Sarah Ward, Megan Burnside, Kathryn Reynolds, Tammy Copp, Danielle Wetton, Jade McLaurin, Becky Borrows.
