On Monday 5th January 2009 Guthlaxton College, Wigston witnessed the official opening of its sports facilities. A resurfaced All Weather Pitch, new Community Sports changing rooms and reception were the result of partnership funding between the Football Foundation and the College. A grant of £640,000 was received from the Football Foundation.
The facilities were opened by Manish Bhasin BBC Football and Cricket presenter and Ian Barraclough 1st Team Coach at Scunthorpe United who were both former students at the Wigston-based College. The opening was preceded by an exhibition football match including the highly successful Under 15 and Under 16 College teams on the refurbished All Weather Pitch which stood the test of icy temperatures and snow.
The additional facilities offer state of the art changing and showering amenities for teams and referees. The reception area provides a focus for home and visiting teams alike.
The facilities are extensively used by local, county and city teams. They are available for hire by contacting the Community Sports Team on 0116 2812991.
