UCAS applications continue to be sent throughout the month of November and December. To date, 85 applications have been successfully sent, with some students having already received details of offers and invitations to interview. This is a tense period for all our Year 13 students, but they can rest assured that any outstanding applications will meet the official UCAS deadline of January 15th 2009. They can track their application online, but should also remember to check the notice boards for queries. Information regarding applications for grants, loans and bursaries to fund Higher Education will be provided by Guthlaxton College staff in February.

Sixth Form Opportunities evening was well attended by our current Year 11 students on Wednesday 3rd December. Head Boy Dan Frost, Head Girl Andrea Casey and Deputies, Dan Wright and Lara Langeveld welcomed the large audience into the hall and delivered some excellent speeches on their experiences. We were also well supported by five of our Higher Education links; Cambridge, Derby, Nottingham Trent, Northampton and DMU. Application forms for entry into the Sixth Form 2009 will be available in January to meet a deadline of 2nd March for applications to reach the main office. All students will need to complete a Guthlaxton College paper application form in addition to their LeCAP online application.

Year 12 and Year 13 peer mentors have delivered information in small House assemblies over the past few weeks to raise awareness of the Peer Support Group available to all students at lunchtimes. Initially the group planned to be able to offer support on two occasions during the week, but strong support from Sixth Form volunteers has meant that the Peer Support Room can be open from 12.45-1.00pm every day. If students do have concerns which they would like to discuss with a peer mentor, then please call in.

The formal Christmas dinner hasn’t been as much of a sell out as anticipated with fewer Sixth Form students wanting to attend. It appears to be a popular night in students’ calendars for other events, but it will still prove to be an awesome event with Mr. Norris as DJ and a third of the Sixth Form in attendance.

For Pink Day Charities, the Sixth Form raised £290.
