Guthlaxton 2 - Beauchamp 0
The Under 16 girl’s football team made it through to the final of the County Cup after nail biting semi final against Beauchamp.
The game kicked off and immediately Beauchamp looked dangerous attacking, having the best of the first few minutes. Against the run of play however, captain Leah Grant played a ball down the line for Tammy Copp to meet. Copp was able to play a superb ball into the box from a tight angle which was met by Katie Connor, who volleyed the ball past the keeper for Guthlaxton to take the lead. This great start for the girls, boosted their confidence and again came close with shots from Megan Burnside and Jade McLaurin. Beauchamp, however, continued to look a threat and it took some fantastic saves by Zara Cook in goal to keep the score at 1-0.
The second half was just as tight as the first half, with Beauchamp having the better of the chances, but some superb last minute defending by Abbey Wells and Naomi Connor again kept Beauchamp out. With Beauchamp starting to look frustrated and pushing more players forward in search of the equaliser , Guthlaxton were able to capitalise when Tammy Copp broke through and scored, putting the game out of reach with only a few minutes remaining.
