A visit to the City gallery in Leicester and renowned Sculptor Philip Cox works with Art students to create sculptures.

Sculpting

Upper sixth Art students enjoyed three days creating sculptures with renowned sculptor Philip Cox in November. The life scale figures were initially based on the students themselves and developed into quirky and individual characters.

The figures are now on show in the Art Department and the Foyer Lounge. Congratulations to all involved.

City Gallery Exhibitions

Year 12 art students have recently visited the City Gallery in Leicester to see two exhibitions; Open 20 and Passion to Print. We were met at the gallery by Gemma Wright, an artist from the Leicester print workshop who talked about the Passion to Print exhibition and explained the different printing processes that artists had used. Gemma, who had some of her own prints on display, will be coming into college this month and again after Christmas to run workshops on dry point printing for our Year 12 and Year 10 students.

The Annual Open Exhibition, now in its twentieth year, showcases work from artists in the East Midlands. A wide range of art and craft work is currently on display at the gallery. Included in the exhibition are paintings by ex Guthlaxton art students David Raine and Becky Barker. David is now teaching art at a school in Peterborough and Becky is currently on a Foundation course at Leicester College.

Guthlaxton Associate staff, Amy Bonsor and Sarah Bosworth who both studied art at Guthlaxton, also have work in the exhibition.
