Five top ICT students from Guthlaxton visit DMU to try out a range of activities which will be part of the brand new ICT Vocational Diploma course on offer from September 2009.

Five top ICT students from Guthlaxton teamed up with students from Lutterworth, Market Harborough and Countesthorpe to try out a range of activities, which will be part of the brand new ICT Vocational Diploma course on offer from September 2009. The Vocational Diploma is a challenging course that educates students to the highest standard in ICT but is linked with Industry and local colleges of further education and Universities. The course will be available at three levels, with level 3 being equivalent to three and a half A levels and acceptable for university entry.

Mr.Wilce and Dr. Saeed accompanied Ellis Goodwin, Anna Page, Kate Peters, Jack Vardy and Charlotte Voss to the Computing Faculty at DeMontfort University. Students were made aware of the courses available at the University and were given a brief insight into the fascinating research that is currently being conducted. They were then asked to evaluate a piece of software ranging from 3D Modelling and Programming robots to Web Development and Desktop publishing. They were required to produce a presentation to sell the software later on in the day, which was judged by a panel of lecturers from the University in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style setting. All students performed exceptionally well and were a true asset to the College. The eventual winning team included Charlotte Voss, who won a £10 HMV voucher. The winning team managed to programme a robot without any prior knowledge of programming.
